Karla Harby grew up in suburban Detroit but spent more than 20 years in the New York City area as a freelance journalist and science writer. Because of her vocal quality, professors at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism urged her to pursue a broadcast career instead of working in print. But Karla stayed with print, and her work was published worldwide by Reuters and many other publishers. Before leaving New York for the Rockies, Karla studied voiceover with a private coach and obtained her certificate in improvisational comedy from the Upright Citizens Brigade, a school that has supplied many writers to Saturday Night Live (SNL). She also worked as a flutist, drummer and band leader for private events, studio sessions and NYC clubs. Currently she lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband Ray Greenwell and their two dogs and cat.
